Staying Well: Working Well

This event is a series of three talks and workshops involving Mary B Jackson, LawCare; Rosie Brennan, Plymouth Law Clinic; Abigail Payne, Plymouth Junior Lawyers Division; the Student Wellbeing Team at the University of Plymouth, and guest speakers from the student body and local professionals.

The event will address common themes relating to mental health and wellbeing, and offer an opportunity to network and chat throughout the afternoon. 

Areas covered, depending on audience level, will include:

  • LawCare - an overview
  • Mental health and wellbeing
  • Self-care (with reference to vicarious trauma)
  • Creating a mentally healthy workplace
  • The legal brain/personality
  • Q&A session.

KEYNOTE SPEAKER - Mary B Jackson, LawCare Co-ordinator

Mary has been a LawCare Co-Ordinator since October 2008. 

LawCare is the charity that supports and promotes good mental health and wellbeing in the legal community throughout the UK and Ireland. Mary formerly worked as a corporate solicitor until 2000, when she changed career to work as the South West Regional Manager for the Law Society of England & Wales. Prior to working in law, Mary was an inner-city secondary school teacher in London of English, French and Drama, later becoming a teacher-trainer at St Mary’s College, Twickenham, University of Surrey.

She relocated to the South West in 1996. These days she lives in a cottage surrounded by woodland in North Devon. In her spare time Mary enjoys walking, cooking, writing poetry and voluntary counselling for Young Devon. Recently, Mary obtained her MHFA (Mental Health First Aid) England certificate in a bid to deepen her knowledge of mental health issues. She is also now a qualified BACP Counsellor.
