Recently appointed Plymouth Law Society President Chris Hoile has named PCIP and Hugs Children’s Cancer Charity as his two official charities for his year in office.

PCIP (Promoting Children in Plymouth) are on a mission to eradicate the social injustice, ill-health and misery caused by child poverty in Plymouth. They bring together the public, the private sector and the third-sector to act in unison to make a difference to the lives of young people in the city.

Hugs Children’s Cancer Charity is a Plymouth based charity that helps families in Devon and Cornwall who have a child with cancer. They not only offer emotional support to families, but they also help make important memories and enable families to stay together during treatment.

Both of these charities will benefit financially from the effort that’s made this year by the Plymouth Law Society and its members with various planned events, sponsorships and of course the annual Law Society Dinner which is held towards the end of the year.

Commenting on being appointed as one of the chosen charities, Jemma Jones, Head of Fundraising at Hugs Children’s Cancer Charity said:

“We are absolutely delighted to have been selected as one of Plymouth Law Society’s Charity Partners, alongside Promoting Children in Plymouth.

The funds raised throughout the partnership will make a real difference to local families, helping us provide practical, emotional and financial support when it is needed most, to children with cancer and their families across Devon and Cornwall.

We are looking forward to working together over the coming year and building what we hope will be a fantastic partnership.”

Kerry Bidewell, from Promoting Children in Plymouth commented “We are incredibly proud to have been selected as one of the Plymouth Law Society President’s chosen charities this year. The Law Society has a long and valued history of supporting local causes, and this continued commitment plays a vital role in strengthening our community. Their support will make a real difference, helping us reach more children and deliver the opportunities they need to thrive across Plymouth.”

Formed in 1815, Plymouth Law Society represents solicitors in the city and surrounding areas to maintain the standards of the profession through training, sharing best practice and providing a collective voice for its members.

Commenting on the announcement, Chris Hoile said: “Taking on the role of President is a genuine honour, not just because you’re able to play an important role in the shaping of the region’s legal sector, but because you’re also able to help charities while you’re in the position. For me, PCIP and Hugs are a perfect fit for the Plymouth Law Society because they’re both based in the city and they both do amazing work supporting younger people.”
